This is a true old-fashioned London bookshop. Titles scattered everywhere with the helpful owner risking all for me as he kept climbing a ladder to get to books from the top shelves for me to examine. There could be treasures here yet to be found. Sensible prices. - Chris Harte 27.06.09.

I picked up one book from a set of nine and mentioned to the manager that the price was a bit steep for the set. His agononised reply was that the price was for each individual title. During my visit the owner arrived and his attitude was such that I left the shop. Why do these people open premises when they obviously don't want to be bothered with the riff-raff turning up. - Chris Harte 27.06.09.
Friendly and helpful with an interesting stock that is worth browsing. I find the prices reasonable. - James Salmon 21.08.09.
In reply to Mr Harte - I'm sorry he felt he was treated poorly, but that really isn't what I am or the shop is like. In fact in his own review of our Chiswick shop that same week he referred to me as 'Manager chatty and with considerable knowledge of the trade. Visit highly recommended.'
When I thought back to the incident, I recall that Will who was in charge that day had indeed answered Mr Harte's question (and I'm sorry he found the books too expensive) - I was trying to unload the car while parked on a yellow line and fending off traffic wardens. The morning's calls having taken far too long, I was running late for my subsequent appointments. If I was a little distracted by the daily hassle of doing business in London, then I apologise. Why do I open a shop? It's what I've done all of my working life, and I suspect that the numerous customers we've had in that location over the past 20 years wouldn't recognise Mr Harte's review as being representative of the shop in any way or form. - Stephen Foster 03.12.09.

"Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill."
